Benefitting Organization: Marketing Communication Special Interest Group of the Society for Technical Communication, the leading professional organization for technical writers and editors.
Publication's Objective: The STC Marcom SIG has produced IMPACT! for several years as a way of connecting the 1,500 SIG members scattered globally. The newsletter initially ran four pages, containing two articles on trends in the field of technical marketing communication.
Principia's Role: After three years as associate editor, Deborah Ausman became IMPACT!'s managing editor in the fall of 2000. Her goal was to grow the publication into a more viable resource for SIG members. In addition to running one or two feature articles per issue on timely and relevant marcom subjects, Deborah and her volunteer staff introduced regular columns identified by SIG members as important to their growth as communicators. These efforts were recognized one year later, when Impact! received a Merit award in the STC's newsletter competition, its first ever award.
