With undergraduate degrees in zoology and English, Deborah Ausman figured that the perfect career would be teaching animals to talk. But when job openings in this area proved sparse, she became a science writer. She went freelance in 1992 after two years in industry handling scientific communication for MDL. She took the business name Principia Communications in 1996 with the aim of making technology compelling -- of making science make sense.

Deborah specializes in scientific information management and drug discovery, though she has written and edited copy about such topics as research in computational and applied mathematics, nanotechnology, and defibrillators. She will work closely with your organization's researchers and marketing staff to determine the right message to communicate to your audience, from fellow scientists to the general public. Deborah brings to the table a true desire to learn about the technology behind your products and services, along with the experience to position this information effectively in a variety of venues.

What's in a Name?

Principia takes its name from Sir Isaac Newton's seminal work, Philosophić Naturalis Principia Mathematica (or "The Principia")--a masterful piece of scientific communication. We pronounce "Principia" with a hard "c," accented on that syllable. The logo is inspired by the legendary apple that led to Newton's theories on gravitational attraction. Like Newton's noggin-jogging apple, Principia's communication services can help you and your audience see the broader implications of your research. Plus, the apple is kinda pretty!
